Happening on Broadway …
Broadway takes over television
Broadway took over both Dancing with the Stars and South Park this week on television. The contestants danced their way through classic Broadway songs on Monday and Tuesday, with special performances from Broadway’s Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked) and Courbin Bleu (In the Heights). Wednesday night, South Park featured Broadway on its episode ‘Broadway Bro Down,’ co-written by Tony Award winning director Robert Lopez (Book of Mormon). Missed the shows? Check out the highlights from DWTS and South Park.
Twist on Lysistrata hits Broadway this November
Lysistrata Jones, a modern-day basketball-themed twist on the classic Greek tale Lysistrata, opens November 12 on Broadway. The musical, written by Tony nominee Douglas Carter Bean (Sister Act, Xanadu) and a score by Lewis Flinn, centers around the Athens University basketball team, which hasn’t won a game in 30 years. Head cheerlead Lysistrata Jones challenges the squad’s girlfriends to stop “giving it up” until their boyfriends win a game.
Broadway’s Kids’ Night has new spokesman
Nick Jonas of The Jonas Brothers, as well as Les Misérables, Beauty and the Beast and Annie Get Your Gun, will be the 2012 spokesman for Broadway’s Kids’ Night. The program, running February 5-9, allow 6-18 year olds to attend Broadway shows free when accompanied by adults who pay for full-price tickets.
