Happening on Broadway …
Cast announced for national tour of Million Dollar Quartet
The national tour of Million Dollar Quartet, kicking off here at PlayhouseSquare on October 11, announced that Derek Keeling (Johnny Cash), Cody Slaughter (Elvis Presley), Martin Kaye (Jerry Lee Lewis) and Lee Ferris (Carl Perkins) will star in the tour.
Also among the cast include actors Christopher Ryan Grant, Kelly Lamont, Billy Shaffer, and Chuck Zayas. Million Dollar Quartet recreates the historic day at Memphis Sun Records when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins had an impromptu jam session.
Pascal joins cast of Memphis
Tony nominee Adam Pascal will take the role of Huey Calhoun in the Tony-winning musical Memphis starting on Tuesday October 25 at Shubert Theatre. Pascal is well known for receiving a Tony nomination for playing Roger in the original cast of Rent. He has also appeared on Broadway in Aida and Cabaret. The national tour of Memphis will be at PlayhouseSquare February 28- March 11.
Barbara Cook among 5 honored by Kennedy Center
Broadway singer Barbara Cook, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, saxophonist Sonny Rollins, actress Meryl Streep and singer Neil Diamond will be honored with the Kennedy Center Honors for their contributions to American culture through the arts on Dec. 4. CBS will broadcast the show Dec. 27. Cook made her Broadway debut in 1951 and was cast in The Music Man, for which she earned a Tony. She returned to the cast of Sondheim on Sondheim last year.
