Happening on Broadway …
Angela Bassett joins Samuel L. Jackson in The Mountaintop
Angela Bassett will be joining Samuel L. Jackson in Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop, a play depicting the evening before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination. Jackson will play King, and Bassett will play a motel maid he meets. Previews are set to begin September 22, with opening night on October 13.
Matthew Broderick returns to Broadway
Matthew Broderick will be back on Broadway for the first time since 2001’s The Producers with his new starring role in Nice Work If You Can Get It. Kathleen Marshall, a recent Tony winner for Anything Goes, will be choreographing and directing the production.
Book of Mormon breaks ticket price records
Tony Award-winning The Book of Mormon set a new record for the most expensive ticket on Broadway, at $487.25 for a prime orchestra seat, according to Bloomberg. The record was previously held by The Producers, with the show’s 2001 ticket prices reaching $480.
Stephen Colbert discusses his Broadway performance
